Life Together | Bear One Another's Burdens

Galatians 6:1-5 // Burdens are those things that we carry together? How do we help one another and assume personal responsibility?

Who HIMSELF BORE our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. For you were like sheep going astray, BUT HAVE NOW RETURNED to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
— 1 Peter 2:24-25
Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Put on my yoke, and learn from me. I’m gentle and humble. And YOU WILL FIND REST for yourselves. My YOKE IS EASY TO BEAR, and my BURDEN IS LIGHT.
— Matthew 11:28-30

Reflection Questions

Bear one another's burdens (crushing load)

AND

Bear your own load (military backpack)

Burdens we bear:

  1. I am not good, my iniquity is crushing me – Psalm 38. Do you labor under guilt (I did something) and shame (I am something)? Do you have unrepentant sin or have you be sinned against? How can you ask for help in this?

  2. God is not good (to me). How can we move this from theology to a grasped truth?

  3. God's people are not good. Family wounds (blood and church) hurt so much more. Is this an area of tenderness for you and how can you pursue healing in this area?

Sharing our burdens:

  1. How can you share someone's burdens this week? By way of your presence (passive and active), by way of your words (prayer, speaking truth), by way of your time talents and treasures? Ask the Holy Spirit to highlight someone to you this week.

  2. In terms of carrying your own load, do you struggle with compassion? How is perspective different?

  3. Our backpacks all contain: message, maturity, mission and means. What has God put in your backpack to equip you for your sphere?

  4. Are you weary because it feels like you are alone? Are you weary of helping others? Are you weary because it seems like there is no fruit? Are you weary because you do not know how to ask for help?
