Advent 2019 | Night
Jason Newell / Luke 1:76–79
This Sunday, we begin our Advent series. Jason Newell kicks off Advent with part 1: Night. Darkness is an all-encompassing reality that must relent to the slow and sure progress of the light of day. In the shadow of night, how do we look ahead to the break of dawn? What do the Scriptures tell us about the light of God's salvation?
Sermon Questions
Welcome to our first week of our advent series "Dawn."
Here are a few quotes from Sunday:
There is a difference between waiting and longing. Longing is waiting for something meaningful."“The uniqueness of Advent is that it really forces us more than any other season, to look deeply into what is wrong in the world, and why the best-laid plans don’t work out the way we meant them to, and why our greatest hopes are so often confounded, and why things happen the way they do, and why sometimes it is so difficult to see where God is acting. - Rev. Fleming Rutledge “
Because of what God has said in the past and what he has displayed in his present and unchanging character we can trust him with our future.
God builds our faith when we meditate on His faithfulness.
What is the difference between waiting and longing? What is something you are waiting for currently and what is something you are currently longing for?
Does this season of Advent cause you to "look deeply at what is wrong with the world?" What things do you notice that seem dark or broken?
Why do you think God took away Zechariah’s ability to speak or hear even? How did that seem to bless him as he waited nine months to regain his speech?
How has God "grown your faith as you meditate on His faithfulness" in the past 3 months?
