Sermon Questions

Well, gang, we are three weeks deep into our Philippians sermon series “Remember to forget.” Fun fact: we have a complimentary bible reading plan to support our Sunday messages. Click here for a copy.

  1. In a nutshell, this Sunday’s message was a detailed look at the Apostle Paul’s methods for Gospel advancement. Before we get into an overview take a moment as a group to discuss in your own words what it means to you to “advance the gospel.”

  2. What are the two main categories of gospel advancement that were mentioned this Sunday? (Answer = Internally / Externally). There were two specific ways that we discussed that the Gospel advances internally: 1) Through considering others over or equal to ourselves 2) by our “attitudes” or in Karin’s words “when we remember to give of ourselves to God and others without grumbling & complaining.”

  3. As a group, discuss how you have seen God use the Gospel to change you in a way that has caused you to view others, yourself or even your time differently. How do you think differently because of the Gospel?

  4. For Christ-followers we know that the outward transformation of our lives and our effectiveness on mission are reliant on the inward transformation of our minds (Rom 12). For our third question describe how your increased understanding of the Gospel affects your behavior. How do you live differently because of your understanding of the gospel (do you work differently? Parent? Date? Shop? play sports?… diffidently in view of the gospel of Christ.)

  5. In closing, lets shift gears. One of the questions asked this weekend in light of Paul’s second imprisonment and potential execution was “Where are you in a place not of your choosing and how can you advance the gospel?” As a group talk about these areas of difficulty and pray for strategy & faith in how we can partner with God to bring His power and presence into these difficult areas of our lives for Glory of God and the Joy of others.
