Philippians | Walk Worthy
Nick Saltas / Philippians 1:27-2:4
Sermon Questions
This Sunday marks our fourth week in our Philippians Series “Remember to Forget.” And we taught out of the phil 1:27-2:4.In the first half of Sundays message we laid out three points around how to walk worthy of the Gospel. Firstly, we must not fear those who oppose us. Secondly we must not fear what they fear and lastly we should expect opposition.
According to Tim Keller “Unless we believe the gospel, everything we do will be driven by pride or fear.” As a group or in your own studies this week reflect on the things that make you fearful. What worries you? What troubles lay beneath the surface? What concerns do you have about your future or present circumstances? As you do try to determine if this is a valid fear (one that hopes for the good and or salvation of others) or if this is a worldly fear. One driven by a lack of faith in God’s ability to see, know and act in a way that is loving and for your good.
The second major section of this Sundays teaching revolved around what the Spirit of God leads us into. The Spirit of God is amazing and it consistently brings unity, humility and purpose to our lives on a daily basis. When we walk I a manner worthy of the gospel we experience these things among others. How would you evaluate you life in these three areas? Do your spheres of influence grow in unity over time because of your presence in them or are they scratchy and divided? For humility ask yourself this question, How much of my day do I spend thinking about the needs of others and how easily do I get offended? Pride makes us entitled and self absorbed which produces selfishness and an easily offended conscious. Lastly does my life feel more like a grind or an adventure. Is it filled with opportunity or obligation?
When we as a people live in a manner worthy of the gospel we are free from worldly fear and we are united in humility, power and purpose. Who has God placed in your midst to share his truth and your life with for His glory and their good? As a group brainstorm how we can practically serve, connect with and teach these individuals about the good news of Jesus life, death and resurrection?
