Palm Sunday: Prince of Peace?
Luke 19:28-48 // Christ is the long awaited Prince of Peace! His peace is unlike anything we could ask for or imagine. His peace is also disruptive. Christ leads with absolute humility, disrupting long-held expectations of what Messiah would look like. Christ leads with absolute authority, disrupting a culture more concerned with religious systems than true discipleship. We embrace the peace he offers through worship and submission.
This Sunday we celebrated Palm Sunday teaching out of Luke’s account of the “triumphal entry” in chapter 19 (v. 28-48). Alex taught on how Jesus is always the perfect and true God that he is rather than the god we want and expect him to be.
In what ways did the people alive in Jesus’ life misplace their expectations? What did they want and expect Jesus to do VS what he actually came to do?
Why do you think Jesus was so focused on “overthrowing human hearts” rather than overthrowing “Roman rule”?
In what ways do we misplace our expectations of Jesus? In what ways are we holding onto expectations of who we want him to be that are unhelpful or inaccurate?
Who or what am I seeking comfort and security from apart from Christ? How can we ask Jesus to disrupt that to experience more of his peace?
How many Beanie Babies does Alex own?
